Cardinals Use Original Round Tender On S Tony Jefferson

Matt Miller of B/R reports that the Cardinals have used an original round tender on restricted free agent S Tony Jefferson.

  • Rand Getlin confirms the reports and adds that Jefferson will generate interest on the open market in the coming days.

This move will cost the Cardinals $1,671,000 for the 2016 and give them the right of first refusal on any contract offer he receives. However, if they elect to not match an offer sheet, Arizona would not receive any compensation for Jefferson.

Jefferson, 24, signed on with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma back in 2013.

In 2015, Jefferson appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and recorded 78 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, three forced fumbles and five pass defenses.
