Rams Were “Mildly Interested” In Peyton Manning, Wouldn’t Guarantee Him A Starting Job

According to Peter King of MMQB.com, the Rams were the only team even “mildly interestedPeyton Manning. However, they had yet to have serious internal discussions about bringing him in.

Source have told King that the Rams wouldn’t have guaranteed Manning the starting job, which means he would likely have had to compete with Case Keenum and possibly a rookie quarterback for the starting job.

King indicates the best Manning may have been able to do in terms of a contract is something close to $8 million with incentives and the opportunity to compete for a job.

According to King, the Texans may have had some interest too, but it was clear that the level of interest wasn’t going to be close to what it was back in 2012.

Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk reports that the Broncos have yet to release Manning or place him on the reserve/retired list.

Manning, 39, was entering the final year of his five-year, $96 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $19 million in 2016.

In 2015, Manning appeared in 10 games and thrown for 2,249 yards while completing 59.8 percent of his passes to go along with nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
