Texans Use Low-Round Tender On OLB John Simon

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans are using a low-round tender on RFA OLB John Simon.

The low-round tender will cost the Texans $1,671,000 for the 2016 season and give them the right of first refusal on any contract offer they receive. However, if they elect to not match an offer sheet, they would not receive any compensation for him.

Simon, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2013. He spent just over a year in Baltimore before he was waived at the start of the 2014 season.

The Texans later signed him off of the Ravens’ practice squad.

In 2015, Simon appeared in all 16 games and recorded 53 tackles, five sacks, and a fumble recovery for the Texans. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 48 edge rusher out of 110 qualifying players.
