Jaguars Finalizing Six-Year, $90M Deal With DL Malik Jackson

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that the Jaguars signed DL Malik Jackson to a six-year, $85.5M deal that includes $31.5 million fully guaranteed over first two years.

• Jackson also receives another $10.5M guaranteed for injury.
• His 2018 salary of $13.5M becomes fully guaranteed in March of that year.
• Pelissero notes that Jackson’s deal is really just a two-year, $31.5M agreement for now.

Mike Klis of 9News is reporting that the Jaguars and DL Malik Jackson are finalizing the details of a contract that will make him the NFL’s fourth highest-paid defensive lineman in the NFL.

• Klis reports that Jackson receives a six-year, $90 contract that includes $4.5 million in playing time incentives in the last three  years of  his deal.
• According to Klis, Jackson will get $45 million in the first three  years of the deal with $42 million of that fully guaranteed against skill, injury and salary cap.
• Jackson’s three-year average of $15 million surpasses the $14.8 million three-year average Buccaneers DT Gerald McCoy received a few years ago.
• The agreement is expected to be executed once the free-agent market officially opens on Wednesday.

Jackson reportedly had interest from the Broncos, Bears, Chiefs, Redskins and Raiders.

Jackson, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Broncos back in 2012. He played out his four-year, $2,313,612 rookie contract and was largely considered to be one of the best player’s in this year’s market.

In 2015, Jackson appeared in all 16 games for the Broncos and recorded 46 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, seven pass defenses and a safety. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 defensive end in a 3-4 defense out of 57 qualifying players.
