Sam Bradford Likely To Ask Eagles For Trade Out Of Philadelphia?

Jason Cole of B/R reports that it’s likely QB Sam Bradford will ask the Eagles to trade him or some way to leave Philadelphia and try to find a different team that will invest in him long-term.

  • According to Cole, Bradford may have to take a pay cut in order to move on.
  • Philadelphia has said that Bradford will be their starting quarterback, even after they traded up to No. 2 overall and plan to take a quarterback.
  • Cole mentions that the Eagles could always turn to Chase Daniel as their short-term starter if they were to move on from Bradford.

Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter yesterday that Bradford is not happy with the Eagles’ decision to move up in the draft for a quarterback.

He’s hot,” one source tells Schefter. “Who wouldn’t be? This is Philly saying, ‘We don’t see (you) as long-term answer.’ He’s mad and wants to show everyone who’s best.’’

Eagles GM Howie Roseman confirmed that Bradford will be their starting quarterback this season and added that they have no plans to make him available for trade, even though they will be taking a quarterback at No. 2 overall.

Many were wondering if the Eagles could make Bradford available for trade, seeing as the Broncos and Jets are both in the market for starting quarterbacks. However, there are obvious obstacles to trading Bradford at this point.

Joel Corry points out that trading Bradford before June 2 would leave them with an $11 million 2016 salary cap charge because of his signing bonus. If they wanted until after June 1, these figures would improve to $5.5 million (2016) and $5.5 million (2017) in the dead money.

Albert Breer added that the second year of Bradford’s contract looks smart now, as it puts the Eagles in position to trade him after the 2016 season if their young quarterback is ready to take over.

Bradford, 28, signed a two-year, $36 million contract that included $26 million guaranteed with the Eagles over a month ago. He stands to make base salaries of $7 million and $13 million over the next two years.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading would free up just $1.5 million in available cap space while creating a staggering $11 million in dead money.

In 2015, Bradford appeared in 14 games for the Eagles and threw for 3,725 yards while completing 65 percent of his passes to go along with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding Bradford’s future with the Eagles as the news is available.
