NFL Notes: Draft, Broncos, Browns & Lions

Draft

  • Oregon DL DeForest Buckner mentioned that he’s hearing from the Chargers, Cowboys, Jaguars and Titans “pretty regularly.” (Rand Getlin)
  • Eastern Kentucky OLB Noah Spence said he’s visited with the Cardinals, Ravens, Packers, Jets, Texans, Buccaneers, Redskins, Saints, and Jaguars. (Sirius XM NFL Radio)
  • Missouri Western LT Leonard Wester visited with the Ravens and worked out for the Cardinals, Buccaneers and Eagles. (Adam Caplan)

Broncos

  • Broncos GM John Elway said that trade talks with the 49ers regarding Colin Kaepernick is “dormant.” He added that their offer is still there. (James Palmer)
  • Elway said of the situation involving OLB Von Miller: “I know what I think of Von Miller, I know what this organization thinks of Von and we’re going to work our tail off to get it done.” (Nicki Jhabvala)
  • According to Elway, the situation with Miller is “not nearly as bad as people have portrayed it out there.” (James Palmer)
  • In fact, Elway said that they’ve submitted an offer to Miller and received a counter offer. (Troy Renck)
  • Elway said: “We feel good about Mark (Sanchez). (Nicki Jhabvala)
  • Regarding the quarterback class, Elway said: “There’s some good players in it. There will be some guys that will have a chance to compete and have good careers.” (James Palmer)
  • Elway believes offensive line is a particular strength of this year’s draft class. (Nicki Jhabvala)
  • Elway mentioned that their strong locker room gives them the ability to take character risks on players. However, he still believes it’s a “case by case situation.” (Troy Renck)

Browns 

  • Browns HC Hue Jackson told reporters on Thursday that he’s “extremely excited” about the trade that they made to move down from No. 2 overall. (Nate Ulrich)
  • Jackson mentioned that Robert Griffin III’s presence never influenced their decision to trade back in round one. (Scott Petrak)
  • Jackson added that RGIII will have to earn the right to start for them just like every player on the roster. (Scott Petrak)
  • According to Jackson, “There are still good quarterbacks in the draft that we might have an opportunity’‘ to acquire. (Mary Kay Cabot)
  • Jackson did say that he’s “very comfortable” with where they’re at in regards to the quarterback position while adding that they’ll see how the draft goes. (Nate Ulrich)
  • Jackson said of Carson Wentz and Jared Goff: “They’re good players and will have fine careers…did what was best for us.” (Mary Kay Cabot)

Lions

  • Lions GM Bob Quinn told reporters that they have fielded a lot of calls about trading picks. However, he added that they feel really good about where they are in the process. (Michael Rothstein)
  • Quinn mentioned that he feels more pressure this year in the draft, given that he’s a first-year GM: “There’s more pressure, of course. I’m making the pick.
  • Quinn added that he doesn’t anticipate a lot of arguments on draft day because their draft board is set. (Michael Rothstein)
  • Quinn wouldn’t say whether or not they have interest in free agent CB Josh Norman. (Michael Rothstein)
  • Regarding the possibility of trading QB Matthew Stafford, Quinn said: “I have no interest in trading Matthew Stafford.” (Dave Birkett)
  • Interestingly enough, Quinn mentioned that they have Ole Miss DL Robert Nkemdiche red flagged on their draft board. (Dave Birkett)
  • Quinn didn’t have an update to provide regarding LB Stephen Tulloch‘s status with the team. (Kyle Meinke)
