49ers Announce The Hiring Of Jim Tomsula

Update:

The San Francisco 49ers made it official Wednesday night and announced the hiring of Jim Tomsula as their next head Coach.

“After conducting a thorough coaching search, and meeting with a number of outstanding candidates, Jim Tomsula clearly is the right man to lead this team,” said 49ers CEO Jed York. “Jim is a great teacher and a tremendous mentor who conducts himself with great class and integrity.”

“Our organization is excited to have Jim Tomsula leading this football team,” said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. “We have had the privilege of working alongside Jim for the past eight seasons.  He is a proven leader, teacher and mentor, and we look forward to seeing him apply his craft and vision to our team.

Citing sources, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers are expected to announce D-line coach Jim Tomsula as their next Head Coach.

It should be noted that Schefter is quick to point out that details are still being worked on.

Earlier today, Jason Cole reported that “all signs point to” the 49ers hiring Broncos OC Adam Gase as their next head coach.

While Tomsula’s name frequently came up as the most logical in-house option, it did appear that it was Gase’s job to lose.

Tomsula has been the defensive line coach since 2007 for San Francisco.  He also had a brief stint as their interim Head Coach.
