49ers Could Approach RB Frank Gore Regarding A Pay Cut

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area writes that the 49ers could approach RB Frank Gore during the offseason regarding a reduction in salary.

As things stand right now, Gore is set to make $6.45 million for the 2014 season, which just happens to be the final year of his four-year, $25.9 million contract that included $13.5 million guaranteed.

Gore’s salary leaves him as the No. 6 highest paid running back for the 2014 season and counts just as much against the team’s salary cap.

Maiocco mentions that the 49ers will most likely need the additional cap space to address QB Colin Kaepernick who is eligible for a long-term extension and should end up with fairly large contract.

Gore, 30, has continued to produce for the 49ers since signing that contract. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the past three season while playing every game and 28 total touchdowns over that span.

According to Pro Football Focus, Gore rated as the No. 12 running back this season.
