49ers Are Still Discussing Long-Term Contract For FS Dashon Goldson

The San Francisco 49ers have kept the lines of communication open between them and FS Dashon Goldson, who’s yet to sign his franchise tender, regrading a long-term contract, via CSN Bay Area.

There’s no question that Goldson and his reps will look at the recent deal that was signed by Titans’ S Michael Griffin (five-years, $35 million) as a comparable contract to the one that they’re seeking. While Griffin was rated towards as the #13 best safety last season by Pro Football Focus, Goldson hasn’t rated Goldson any higher than #57 in the last three years. The fact that he contributed 6 interceptions last season appears to be what he’s banking on, but those opportunities may have been created by the team’s tremendous defensive front.

They’ll have until July 16th to work something out.

  1. Eric Weedle         446 tackles 81 assist, Forced fumbles 1, 4 sacks 13 int & 39 passes defended;
    Michael Griffin      389 tackles 91 assist, Forced fumbles 7, 2 sacks 17 int & 44 passes defended;
    Dashon Goldson  277 tackles 54 assist, Forced fumbles 4, 3 sacks 11 int & 23 passes defended;

    Numbers don’t lie? All three came into the league in the same 2007 draft class. Both Weedle & Griffin have far more speed to get to the ball in run support than Dashon Goldson ever will have, that’s why they are far better players, with better football instincts!

    Dashon Goldson wil never ever be in a class talent as these two Pro Bowlers! He should be happy the 49ers are filling to franchise him.
    Eric Weedle & Micheal Griffin out hustles, produces & attacks the line of scrimmage far better! Eric wins again! Wow!!

    This guy’s a Beast, impressive! I hope Trenton can produce like him & if we add can 3 of these 4 studs?
    T.J. McDonald 6′-3″ 218 4.42-40 time
    Bacarri Rambo 6′-1″ 220 4.40-40 time
    Kenny Vacarro 6′-0″ 195 & one of the corners Justin Gilbert 6′-0″ 205 4.42-40 or maybe we’ll be set for the next five years or more!!

    • You did a great job of illustrating your point here! I’m totally on board with you regarding these players. Pro Football Focus’ coverage ratings take this a step further. Weddle – #4, Griffin – #14, Goldson – #72!!! On top of that, both Weddle and Griffin play the run considerably better. This guy should feel blessed that the 49ers have offered him as much as they already have. Thanks again for the awesome comment!
