49ers Sign TE Garrett Celek To A Four-Year, $14M Extension

Update:

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed TE Garrett Celek to a four-year extension on Tuesday.

“Since Garrett entered the league as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2012, he has displayed the skill, work ethic and desire to compete at a high level in the National Football League,” said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. “His commitment and determination to succeed are reflected in the way he conducts himself as a professional on and off the field. As an organization, we would like to congratulate Garrett and look forward to his continued development as a member of this organization.”

Ian Rapoport reports that Celek receives a four-year deal worth $14 million with close to $5 million guaranteed.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the 49ers and TE Garrett Celek are close to finalizing long-term deal.

Celek has had a bigger impact as a blocking tight end for the 49ers, so he could end up being a reasonable value signing for San Francisco.

Celek, 27, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State back in 2012. After playing out his rookie contract, Celek returned to San Francisco on a one-year deal last year and is in position to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2015, Celek appeared in 11 games for the 49ers and recorded 19 receptions for 186 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 18 tight end out of 73 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding an extension for Celek as the news is available.
