49ers Could Wrap Up GM Search Tomorrow, Down To 3 Candidates

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the 49ers could wrap up their GM search by Monday, which is when candidates expect to hear from the team about their decision.

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that the 49ers are expected to hire their next GM at some point early this week.

According to Maiocco, the 49ers are down to three candidates for the job including Vikings assistant GM George Paton, Cardinals VP of player personnel Terry McDonough and former Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik.

San Francisco interviewed Paton and McDonough again last week along with presumptive HC Kyle Shanahan. While the team has yet to schedule any formal meeting with Dominik as of now, sources have told Maiocco that it’s possible Dominik could emerge as an option for the 49ers.

One big issue could end up being how much control the GM will have over the team’s 53-man roster. A source tells Maiocco that Shanahan has “never insisted on control over the team’s roster but wants a voice in all personnel decisions.”

It’s worth mentioning that Paton has interviewed with the Colts for their GM vacancy and some have wondered if he would even accept the 49ers’ job if it’s offered.

We’ll have more regarding the 49ers’ GM position as the news is available.
