49ers First Round Pick WR A.J. Jenkins Continues To Struggle

Matt Barrow of the Sacramento Bee writes that 49ers first-round pick WR A.J. Jenkins has “had a hard time staying on his feet” during the team’s offseason workouts.

This comes shortly after the Santa Rosa Press Democrat mentioned that Jenkins “looked like one of the worst receivers on the field.” Jenkins reported to camp out of shape, so conditioning appears to be a huge issue for him moving forward. Barrows mentions that he really needs to improve his strength as he was “very often” on the ground following the play.

Jenkins was a surprise selection in the first-round, but several teams were really high on him, so there’s a chance that he would’ve been taken pretty high even if the 49ers had passed on him.

One more note; Kyle Williams has actually looked pretty decent thus far, so he could be in a position to secure the No. 3 or 4 receiver spot, assuming that Jenkins isn’t able to turn things around in the coming months.
