49ers G Alex Boone Will Not Report To Mandatory Minicamp

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that 49ers G Alex Boone has no intention of reporting to the team’s mandatory minicamp.

According to Florio, Boone could lose as much as $70,000 by skipping the three-day session and is already out a $50,000 workout bonus he was due for participating in the team’s offseason program.

Previous reports have mentioned that Boone is unhappy with his current deal and is hoping to secure a new contract that would pay him a more competitive salary.

Boone, 27, is entering the fourth year of a five-year deal and is slated to make $2 million for the 2014 season. He currently counts $2.6 million against the cap next season.

It’s worth mentioning that all of the 49ers starting offensive lineman will earn more next year, except for C Daniel Kilgore.

Boone moved from tackle to guard two seasons ago.  The move paid off in a big way for the 49ers, as Boone graded out as the No. 3 guard in the 2012 season according to Pro Football Focus.  However, he regressed some last year when he graded out as the No. 40 guard out of 81 qualifying players.

  1. So sick of these players behaving in this way. No character, no integrity, just “me, me, me”. You signed a contract and you have two years left. Get your ass out there and prove your worth. Let your actions speak louder than your words. If you perform well, you will be compensated. Holding out like this, as leverage, is stupid. He needs to be replaced and I hope the Niners give him the boot.
