49ers GM John Lynch: If Allegations Against Reuben Foster Are True, He’ll Be Cut

On Monday, 49ers GM John Lynch made it clear that they will release LB Reuben Foster if the allegations against turn out to be true.

We take the gravity of these charges, it has not been lost on us, but patience is the right approach right now,” Lynch said, per Jennifer Lee Chan. “We want to be abundantly clear that if Reuben did in fact hit this young lady he will not be part of the team.”

Lynch added: “We abhor domestic violence. We have a team policy. That we take each case individually.

According to Lynch, the team has been in contact with the NFL regarding a possible suspension for Foster, but he believes they do not have all the necessary information at this point, per Lee Chan.

Lynch admitted that they will take Foster’s future or lack thereof into consideration when it comes to the draft, per Lee Chan.

Foster, 24, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2017. He’s entering the second year of his four-year, $9.03 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $875,708 and $1.28 million over the next two years of the agreement.

The 49ers will have a fifth-year option to pick up in 2020 that’s guaranteed for injury only.

In 2017, Foster appeared in 10 games and recorded 72 tackles, no sacks or interceptions and one pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 linebacker out of 88 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding 49ers and Foster as the news is available.
