49ers Waive RB LaMichael James

Update:

———–

Jeff Sperbeck, the agent for RB LaMichael James, announced via his Twitter account that his client has been granted his release from the San Francisco 49ers.

James, 24, was taken in the second-round of the 2012 draft, but was unable to carve out a role with the 49ers. Previous reports mentioned that James had requested a trade, but there was little to no reported interest.

Last year, the 49ers had James active for just 10 games, which had a lot to do with him being slotted as the No. 4 running back on the team’s depth chart. To make matters worse, James played just 28 snaps this season and totaled 59 yards on 12 carries.

James still has two years remaining on his four-year, $3.318 million contract with base salaries of $641,718 and $792,577 coming his way during this time. It’s worth mentioning that James is subject to waivers, so we’ll have to see if anyone claims him.
