Here’s a running list of reports and rumors pertaining to the 49ers’ head-coaching and GM searches. Be sure to check back for the latest news.

Latest:

  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the 49ers are set to interview Seahawks OL coach Tom Cable Sunday for their head-coaching job. Rapoport adds that time won’t be a factor in regards to them hiring their next head coach.
  • Should Texans HC Bill O’Brien end up being available, Mike Silver mentions that 49ers owner Jed York is likely to have interest in him. However, the 49ers may not be willing to part with a draft pick in a trade for O’Brien.
  • A source tells Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Packers executive Brian Gutekunst has emerged as a more attractive candidate for the 49ers’ GM position than Eliot Wolf based on their interviews with the team.
  • Mike Florio mentions that there’s a “theory currently making the rounds in league circles” that the 49ers will either hire Patriots OC Josh McDaniels or Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan as their head coach with the other candidate not taking a job this year.
  • Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that the 49ers will interview Cardinals VP of player personnel Terry McDonough for their general-manager vacancy.
  • Jason Cole of B/R reports that the 49ers and Broncos are looking like the most likely landing spots for Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan. Cole says that Shanahan was impressed with 49ers owner Jed York’s willingness to change the team’s culture after cleaning house.
  • According to Albert Breer, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels prefers the 49ers’ situation to the other positions he’s interviewed for because they’re looking to rebuild the team from the ground up. Breer believes McDaniels has the “inside track” for the job with Louis Riddick possibly being paired with him as GM.
  • Adam Schefter reports that ‪Dolphins DC Vance Joseph is scheduled to interview with the 49ers on Thursday. Although, Schefter admits that the Broncos will need to allow him to leave Denver without being offered their head-coaching job in order for him to met with San Francisco.
  • Mike Silver believes Packers executives Eliot Wolf and Brian Gutekunst are the leading contenders for 49ers’ GM job at this point in time.
  • Mike Silver of NFL Media reports that Redskins OC Sean McVay has “crushed” both of his interviews with the Rams and 49ers.
  • Jason La Canfora wouldn’t be surprised to see the 49ers make Patriots OC Josh McDaniels “an offer he can’t refuse.
  • Sources have told Jason La Canfora that the Rams are “legitimately intrigued” by McVay and if the 49ers don’t land Josh McDaniels, he could see Redskins OC Sean McVay emerging as a top candidate for San Francisco.
  • Matt Maiocco reports that the 49ers have interviews scheduled with Redskins OC Sean McVay and Panthers executive Brandon Beane for Monday and Panthers DC Sean McDermott and  ESPN’s Louis Riddick on Tuesday.
  • According to Adam Schefter, the 49ers are interviewing Colts VP Jimmy Raye II for their GM position today and then have a head coach interview scheduled with Redskins OC Sean McVay.
  • Alex Marvez reports that the 49ers were intrigued by the possibility that Texans HC Bill O’Brien could be available. However, Texans owner Bob McNair denied the reports that they could fire him.
  • A source tells Mike Florio of PFT, that Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard was the 49ers’ “first choice, second choice, and third choice” for their GM position. However, a league source tells Florio that the Chiefs actually declined to grant permission to San Francisco to interview Ballard. The 49ers could still wait until the Chiefs’ season is over to offer Ballard the job but there’s no guarantee he’ll be willing to leave K.C.
  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing multiple sources, reports that Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio declined to interview for the 49ers’ GM vacancy.
  • Jason Cole of B/R reports that there is “increasing talk” that Josh McDaniels and Louis Riddick are tied to each other as a coaching/GM pairing. Cole adds that the 49ers would be the likeliest landing spot for the two of them.
  • A league source tells Ben Volin of the Boston Globe that it appears Patriots OC Josh McDaniels will get to choose between the Rams, 49ers and Jaguars for a head coaching job this offseason, barring a late position becoming available. Multiple sources have told Volin that the 49ers’ job looks like the most attractive for McDaniels, as long as he gets a guarantee that the team will commit to a true rebuild. Volin says that it would likely take a firm four-to-five-year commitment to rebuilding this team to lure McDaniels away from the Patriots.
  • Eric Branch of SFGate.com reports that the 49ers are Josh McDaniels “preferred team” if he decides to leave the Patriots to become a head coach. Branch adds that the 49ers’ willingness to off a clean slate is appealing to McDaniels along with CEO Jed York’s commitment to patiently rebuilding the team. One other consideration, according to Branch, is the fact that 49ers’ status as a former marquee franchise makes the job more attractive than either the Rams or Jaguars’ jobs. All of this sounds positive for McDaniels’ chances of ending up in San Francisco. However, Branch admits that this could always after he meets with the Rams and Jaguars on Saturday. Although, Branch’s source mentioned that McDaniels is ready to take his second head-coaching job.
  • Eric Branch reports that the 49ers will interview Panthers DC Sean McDermott and Redskins OC Sean McVay  Monday in New York.
  • Peter Schrager reports that the 49ers will interview Panthers assistant GM Brandon Beane for their GM vacancy next week. Beane could be seen a potential pairing with Panthers DC Sean McDermott, who is expected to interview for their head-coaching job.
  • Jason La Canfora reports that the 49ers have officially requested permission to interview DC Sean McDermott for their head-coaching vacancy.
  • Tom Pelissero reports that the 49ers are expected to interview Seahawks execs Trent Kirchner and Scott Fitterer for their GM vacancy and assistant HC Tom Cable for their head-coaching job next week.
  • Matt Maiocco reports that the 49ers GM interview schedule consists of Packers execs Eliot Wolf and Brian Gutekunst on Thursday and Vikings exec. George Paton on Friday.
  • Peter Schrager reports that 49ers’ brass is in Chicago and scheduled to interview Bills interim HC Anthony Lynn this afternoon.
  • Matt Barrows reports the 49ers would like to interview Panthers DC Sean McDermott for their head-coaching vacancy. While nothing has been scheduled right now, Barrows says San Francisco could meet with McDermott sometime next week.
  • Jason Cole of B/R, citing multiple sources, reports that one of the key objectives for the 49ers and their GM search is to find a candidate who is strong enough to deal with Patriots OC Josh McDaniels. According to Cole, McDaniels is viewed as the top candidate for the 49ers’ head-coaching job right now but there are still questions as to whether he would even take the job should it be offered to him. Cole’s sources have said that the 49ers would have to answer “major questions” in order to convince McDaniels that it’s worth him leaving the Patriots.
  • Josina Anderson reports that Bills interim HC Anthony Lynn will meet with the 49ers on Wednesday regarding their head-coaching job.
  • According to Mike Jones, the 49ers are scheduled to interview Redskins OC Sean McVay for their head-coaching vacancy on Monday.
  • Matt Maiocco reports that 49ers have scheduled an interview with Minnesota assistant GM George Paton for their GM job.
  • Matt Barrows reports that the 49ers will interview Colts executive Jimmy Raye III for their GM vacancy.
  • Peter Schrager reports that the 49ers have requested permission to interview Redskins OC Sean McVay for their head-coaching vacancy.
  • Rand Getlin reports that Dolphins DC Vance Joseph is scheduled to meet with the Broncos and 49ers regarding their head-coaching vacancies.
  • Adam Schefter reports that ESPN analyst Louis Riddick will interview next week in New York for the 49ers’ GM job.
  • Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that Packers executive Eliot Wolf will interview for the 49ers GM job on Thursday in Green Bay.
  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers are also interviewing Packers Director of college scouting Brian Gutekunst.
  • According to Ian Rapoport, Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard will not interview for the 49ers’ GM position, despite their recent request to meet with him. Rapoport says that Ballard has a great situation with the Chiefs and an excellent relationship with GM John Dorsey.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan will interview with the Rams, Jaguars, Broncos and 49ers between Friday and Saturday.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that the 49ers have requested permission to interview Bills interim HC Anthony Lynn for their head-coaching job
  • Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area confirms that the 49ers have requested permission to interview Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and adds several candidates to the watch list for San Francisco including: Seahawks OL Tom Cable, Bills interim HC Anthony Lynn, Jaguars interim HC Doug Marrone and Dolphins DC Vance Joseph.
  • As for the 49ers’ GM position, Maiocco lists Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio, Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard, ESPN analyst Louis Riddick, Vikings assistant GM George Paton, and Seahawks co-player personnel directors Trent Kirchner and Scott Fitterer.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that the 49ers have requested permission to interview Chiefs director of football operations Chris Ballard.

  • Jason La Canfora reports that the 49ers have interest in two of the Seahawks’ top personnel men — Trent Kirchner and Scott Fitterer — for their GM position along with ESPN analyst Louis Riddick.
  • Mike Silver reports that while the Bills are “very high” on interim HC Anthony Lynn, he’s likely to draw “heavy interest” from other teams including Rams, Jaguars and 49ers among others.
