49ers & CB Richard Sherman Discussing Potential Three-Year Deal

Update:

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that the 49ers and free agent CB Richard Sherman are discussing a potential three-year contract.

Should Sherman and the 49ers not come to an agreement during his visit to San Francisco, Sherman is expected to meet with the Lions at some point (NFLTR).

Adam Schefter reports that free agent CB Richard Sherman is scheduled to meet Saturday with 49ers’ officials. San Francisco reportedly wants to make sure Sherman is healing from his torn Achilles and if both sides pleased with the meeting, they will try to get a contract done.

  • According to Schefter, there’s a real chance this ends up being Sherman’s last visit.
  • Sherman tells Josina Anderson that he has also received preliminary interest from the Titans, Lions, Raiders, Texans, Bucs and Packers.

It’s always a good sign when things are moving quickly, so we’ll have to see if Sherman ends up meeting with other teams or if the 49ers are comfortable hammering out a contract during his visit.

After being released by the Seahawks, reports said that Sherman isn’t ruling out a return to Seattle. However, it’s rare for someone to test the open market and then ultimately re-sign with the team who cut him.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Sherman to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Sherman, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2011. He was entering the final of his five-year, $58.789 million contract that includes $40 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $11 million for the 2018 season when the Seahawks released him in a move that freed up $11 million of available cap space.

In 2017, Sherman appeared in nine games and recorded 35 tackles, two interceptions and seven pass defenses for the Seahawks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 33 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
