49ers Hosting Rookie LB Ben Boulware For Visit, Possible Practice Squad Addition

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, citing a league source, reports that free agent LB Ben Boulware is visiting with the 49ers and if he passes a physical for the team, he’ll likely end up being the 10th member of their practice squad.

The 49ers’ practice squad currently consists of:

  1. WR DeAndre Carter
  2. OL John Flynn
  3. TE Cole Hikutini
  4. CB Asa Jackson
  5. QB Nick Mullens
  6. DL Noble Nwachukwu
  7. WR DeAndre Smelter
  8. OL Darrell Williams Jr.
  9. RB Jeremy McNichols

Boulware, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson back in May. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Panthers cut him loose this past weekend as they cut their roster down the 53 players

During his college career at Clemson, Boulware recorded 261 tackles, 26.5 tackles for a loss, eight sacks, five interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, seven forced fumbles, and four pass defenses.
