49ers Hosting Veteran ILB Desmond Bishop On Monday

Matt Barrow of the Sacramento Bee reports that the 49ers will be hosting free agent ILB Desmond Bishop for a visit on Monday.

San Francisco has also been connected to other free agent linebackers including Brandon Spikes and Erin Henderson in recent days.

There’s no question that the 49ers need to bolster their depth at inside linebacker now that Patrick Willis and Chris Borland have both retired from the NFL.

Bishop, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Packers. He spent five years with Green Bay and helped them win a Super Bowl before he suffered a serious hamstring injury that cost him the 2012 season.

Bishop later caught on with the Vikings, but unfortunately suffered a torn ACL and was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

The 49ers signed him to a contract late last season and he wound up appearing in two games, but recorded just tackles for San Francisco.

We’ll have more updates regarding the 49ers as the news is available.
