49ers LB NaVorro Bowman Feared To Have Torn Achilles, MRI Coming Monday

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the initial fear for 49ers LB NaVorro Bowman is that he suffered a torn Achilles during Sunday’s game.

  • Rapoport adds that Bowman is scheduled to undergo an MRI tomorrow to determine the severity of his injury.

49ers veteran LB NaVorro Bowman was carted off to the locker room after he went down with a non-contact lower left leg injury.

Bowman was able to limp off the field under his own power, but it was clear that this could be a serious injury.

Based on video, David Chao is concerned that Bowman may have suffered a left Achilles rupture.

This would be a terrible loss for the 49ers’ defense, as he’s clearly one of their best players on that side of the ball. It’s worth mentioning that Bowman has worked his way back from a serious knee injury.

Bowman, 28, is a former third-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He’s currently in the first year of his new seven-year, $77 million contract that includes $20 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $5.85 million for the 2016 season.

Entering today’s game, Bowman recorded 27 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and two pass defenses.

We’ll have more regarding Bowman’s injury as the news is available.
