49ers Looking For 3rd-Rd Pick For Torrey Smith, Eagles May Only Willing To Part With 5th-Rd Pick

According to ESPN’s Ed Werder (via Adam Hermann), the 49ers are looking for a third-round pick in return for WR Torrey Smith but the Eagles may only be willing to offer a fifth-round pick for Smith.

Werder says that Philadelphia won’t part with the third-round pick San Francisco is reportedly looking for in return for Smith.

Smith has been linked to the Eagles for over a week now and seems to make the most sense of all of the available receivers. However, it sounds like compensation remains a sticking point.

Jason La Canfora previously mentioned that the Eagles could end up trading for an outside receiver in the days leading up to the deadline with Smith being a “prime target.”

La Canfora mentions that Eagles executive Howie Roseman has shown a willingness to pursue trades and they could really use an outside receiver for rookie QB Carson Wentz to target.

Eagles executive Joe Douglas was with the Ravens when they drafted Smith, which explains why they might be willing to swing a deal for him, despite the money he’s owed and his performance in recent years.

Smith, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. He’s currently in the second year of his five-year, $40 million contract that includes $22 million guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $4.5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Smith has appeared in seven games for the 49ers and caught 13 passes for 199 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 107 receiver out of 108 qualifying players.
