49ers Offer Defensive Coordinator Job To Mike Vrabel

Dianna Marie Russini reports that theĀ 49ers have offered their defensive coordinator job to Texans LBs coach Mike Vrabel.

  • Russini adds that the 49ers are waiting to hear Vrabel’s answer.

San Francisco interviewed Vrabel on Tuesday.

Recent reports have said that San Francisco could keep Eric Mangini in place as their defensive coordinator. However, it appears as though new HC Chip Kelly wouldĀ prefer to go with an up-and-coming coach like Vrabel.

During his press conference on Wednesday, Kelly described what he’s looking for in a coordinator.

ā€œIā€™m looking for a defensive coordinator that can shut people out,ā€ Kelly said. ā€œIā€™m a base 3-4 guy.ā€

Vrabel, 40, finished his NFL career back in 2010 and took a coaching job with the Ohio State. After three years in Columbus as an assistant, he made the move to the NFL and has been working with Bill O’Brien as their linebackers coach.

We’ll have more regarding the 49ers’ defensive coordinator position as the news is available.
