49ers OLB Aldon Smith Pleads “No Contest” Related To Criminal Charges

Cam Inman of the Bay Area News reports that 49ers OLB Aldon Smith has pleaded “no contest” to the three felony weapons charges, one misdemeanor DUI.

Smith, 24, currently is facing a maximum of four years and four months in prison after an incident occurred in his home where weapons were fired by an attendee and injured two others that were in attendance. The DUI charge that Smith is facing happened in September, which Smith subsequently left the team to undergo rehab for part of the season.

Smith had his fifth-year option picked up by the 49ers this offseason despite the fact that Smith had the potential to be placed in prison for these incidences.  As it stands right now, Smith also needs to have his misdemeanor LAX bomb threat addressed which occurred in mid-April.
