49ers Pick Up DE Arik Armstead’s Fifth-Year Option

According to Albert Breer, the 49ers have exercised DE Arik Armstead‘s fifth-year option for the 2019 season.

The fifth-year option will cost the 49ers $9,046,000 for the 2019 season. It’s worth mentioning that the fifth-year option is only guaranteed for injury and won’t prevent the two parties from working on a long-term extension in the next year or so.

Armstead, 24, is a former first-round pick out of Oregon by the 49ers in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is entering the final year of his four-year, $9.84 rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary of $1,777,176 for the 2018 season.

He was placed on the team’s season-ending injured reserve after Week 6 after sustaining a broken hand.

In 2017, Armstead appeared in six games for the 49ers and recorded 16 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and one pass defense.
