49ers Place CB Chris Cook & C Daniel Kilgore On I.R., Sign S Bubba Ventrone

The San Francisco 49ers announced Saturday that the placed CB Chris Cook and C Daniel Kilgore on season-ending injured reserve and re-signed S Bubba Ventrone to a contract.

Cook, 27, signed a one-year, $730,000 contract with the 49ers as a free agent back in March. His 2014 season ends with him appearing in six games and recording six ackles and a pass defense.

Kilgore, 26, broke a bone in his left leg during Week 7’s game against the Broncos. The expectation was that his season was over, so this shouldn’t come as a major surprise.

Kligore signed a four-year, $6.045 million contract extension with San Francisco back in March, so he’ll have an opportunity to compete for the starting job next year.

Ventrone, 30, originally signed on with the Patriots as undrafted free agent out of Villanova back in 2005. He later spent four years with the Browns before bouncing around with the Patriots, Steelers and 49ers.

The 49ers have basically been treating him as the N0. 54 player on their roster as he’s been cut and later re-signed numerous times in the past few months.

Ventrone has appeared in one game this season, but has yet to record a single statistic.
