49ers Place DB Jimmie Ward On IR, Promote CB Greg Mabin

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that they’ve placed DB Jimmie Ward on injured reserve and promoted CB Greg Mabin to the active roster.

The 49ers’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. WR DeAndre Carter
  2. OL John Flynn
  3. QB Nick Mullens
  4. WR DeAndre Smelter
  5. OL Darrell Williams Jr.
  6. RB Jeremy McNichols
  7. OT Pace Murphy
  8. TE Cole Wick
  9. DE Noble Nwachukwu
  10. DB Tyvis Powell

Ward, 26, was taken with the No. 30 overall pick back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $7.112 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

The 49ers picked up Ward‘s fifth-year option this past May, which will cost them $8,526,000 million for the 2018 season. Although, this figure is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension before free agency opens next year.

In 2017, Ward appeared in seven games and recorded 32 tackles, no interceptions, a fumble recovery and a pass defense.
