49ers Place LB Shayne Skov On I.R. & Promote S Marcus Ball

The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday that they’ve placed LB Shayne Skov (knee) on injured reserve and promoted S Marcus Ball to their active roster.

  • 49ers signed LB Wynton McManis to their practice squad.

Skov, 26, signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford last year. He had a brief stint with the Buccaneers but has spent the majority of his NFL career on and off of the 49ers’ active roster.

San Francisco elected to cut Skov loose coming out the preseason but later added him to their practice squad at the start of the regular season. He was called up just a few weeks into the regular season.

In 2016, Skov has appeared in nine games and recorded eight tackles for the 49ers.

Ball, 29, signed as a free agent with the Argonauts back in February of 2012. He spent two years with the Argonauts and totaled  142 tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions, two returned for touchdowns and three fumble recoveries over this time.

New Orleans wound up signing him to a three-year contract in April of 2014 and would go on to appear in 12 games and recorded 16 total tackles.

Ball later caught on with the Panthers last year but was, unfortunately, among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason. He was on and off of the Panthers’ active roster this year before signing on to the Jaguars’ practice squad.

Jacksonville decided to waive Ball from their practice squad to make room for DB Doran Grant

In 2016, Ball has been active for one game but has yet to record a statistic.
