49ers Place Rookie RB Joe Williams On Injured Reserve

Tom Pelissero is reporting that the 49ers are placing rookie RB Joe Williams on injured reserve with an ankle injury as they cut their roster down to 53 players.

Williams, 23, was selected with the No. 121 overall pick by the 49ers in this year’s draft. San Francisco actually traded up to get Williams. The 49ers traded a fourth-round pick and a 2018 fifth-round pick to acquire him.

He received a four-year rookie contract worth $3,029,384 that includes a signing bonus of $629,384.

During his college career at Utah, Williams rushed for 1,884 yards on 314 carries to go along with 20 receptions for 191 yards receiving and 13 total touchdowns over the course of two seasons.
