49ers Place S Eric Reid On Injured Reserve & Promote S Vinnie Sunseri

According to Matt Maiocco, the 49ers have placed S Eric Reid on injured reserve and promoted S Vinnie Sunseri in a corresponding roster move.

Reid implied in a post on his Twitter account Monday that he’s out for the season after MRI results confirmed that he will require season-ending surgery for a torn biceps injury.

Reid, 24, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2013. He was in the final year of his four-year, $8.398 million rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $1,561,467 for the 2106 season when the 49ers picked his fifth-year option back in April.

The fifth-year option will run the 49ers $5.6 million in 2017, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

In 2016, Reid had appeared in nine games for the 49ers and recorded 55 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 60 safety out of 86 qualifying players.
