49ers Players Want HC Jim Harbaugh Out?

NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders mentioned Sunday night that he has heard that the 49ers players no longer want to play for HC Jim Harbaugh.

“They want him out. They’re not on the same page,” Sanders said, via Matt Maiocco of CBS Bay Area. “I really want to know if they’re really playing for the head coach. I got a question with that. Are you really down with your head coach, San Francisco 49ers? Because the way it looks and what I’m hearing, you’€™re really not down for your head coach. And that’s a problem.

“They really got some problems that we hear rumblings. We all know people inside locker rooms.”

Sanders has ties to 49ers WR Michael Crabtree and has previously reported news pertaining to the receiver, but that doesn’t mean Crabtree is his source.

For what it’s worth, Ian Rapoport also mentioned that he has been hearing grumblings from veteran players about discontent with Harbaugh.

The same thing I was hearing last year is the same thing I was hearing as the season was starting — the same thing I’m hearing now,” Rapoport said, via NFL.com. “And some of it is from losing, but I’m told especially the veterans are grumbling already about Jim Harbaugh, and the voices are getting louder and louder.

“Some of the complaints include the fact that he kind of treats them like children,” Rapoport said. “In fact, on planes, I’m told, they’re not allowed to play music, they’re not allowed to play cards. Small things, but these are the things that really can rankle players, even though the veterans do get to sit in first class.

The 49ers are coming off of a solid win over the Eagles on Sunday, so this could help to quell some of the reported discontent within the team.

Harbaugh is in the fourth year of a five-year, $25 million contract, but the two sides have agreed to table talks regarding a potential extension until after the season.

There has been plenty of speculation that Harbaugh’s alma mater, the University of Michigan, could have interest in hiring him as their new head coach at some point. However, a recent report mentioned that Harbaugh is not interested in returning to the college game.

Harbaugh’s contract figures to be another popular topic next year.
