49ers Promote NT Mike Purcell To Active Roster

The San Francisco 49ers announced Friday that they have promoted NT Mike Purcell to their active roster.

This moves comes just a few days after the 49ers waived veteran DL Ray McDonald following news that he is being investigated by the San Jose Police Department on a rape allegation.

Purcell, 23, signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming back in April of last year. He was later signed to a future/reserve contract, but was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster coming out of the preseason.

San Francisco signed Purcell to their practice squad for the second year in a row.

Purcell recorded 197 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two passes defensed and three blocked kicks during his college career.
