49ers Promote RB Jeremy McNichols To Active Roster, Sign C Tim Barnes

The San Francisco 49ers announced that they’ve promoted RB Jeremy McNichols to their active roster and signed OL Tim Barnes to a contract.

The 49ers’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. WR DeAndre Carter
  2. OL John Flynn (Injured)
  3. QB Nick Mullens
  4. WR DeAndre Smelter
  5. OT Pace Murphy
  6. TE Cole Wick
  7. DB Tyvis Powell
  8. OT Andrew Lauderdale
  9. OL Cameron Hunt
  10. LB Boseko Lokombo
  11. CB Channing Stribling

McNichols, 21, was selected with the No. 162 overall pick by the Buccaneers in this year’s NFL draft. He signed a four-year contract worth $2,663,788 with Tampa Bay but was, unfortunately, cut loose coming out of the preseason.

McNichols later decided to sign on to the 49ers’ practice squad.

During his college career at Boise State, McNichols rushed for 3,205 yards on 571 carries (5.6 YPC) to go along with 103 receptions for 1,089 yards receiving and 55 total touchdowns over the course of three seasons and 34 games.

Barnes, 28, originally signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri back in 2011. He played out a number of one-year contracts before signing a two-year agreement with the Rams last year.

The 49ers actually signed Barnes to a contract this past May but cut him loose at the start of the regular season.

In 2016, Barnes appeared in all 16 games for the Rams and Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 31 overall center out of 38 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
