49ers Promote TE Brian Leonhardt To Active Roster

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that the 49ers have promoted TE Brian Leonhardt to their active roster on Saturday.

Leonhardt, 25, wound up signing on with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Bemidji State back in 2013. He was unable to make the team’s 53-man roster coming out of the preseason that year, but later signed on to the team’s practice squad.

The Raiders elected to sign him to a one-year exclusive rights contract this past April, but Leonhardt was once again among their final roster cuts at the start of the season.

The 49ers signed him to their practice squad close to a month ago.

Leonhardt has yet to appear in an NFL game.
