49ers Promote WR Chris Harper, Waive WR Keshawn Martin

The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday that they’ve promoted WR Chris Harper to their active roster and waived WR Keshawn Martin.

  • The 49ersĀ also signed WR Mose Frazier to their practice squad.

Martin, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Texans back in 2012. He spent just over three years in Houston before he was traded to the Patriots a few weeks into the regular season.

The Patriots signed Martin to a two-year, $3 million deal back in January, but he was, unfortunately, one of the team’s final roster cuts as they trimmed their roster down to the 53-man limit. The 49ers signed him to a contract back in September.

In 2016,Ā Martin appeared in one game andĀ totaled 37 kick-return yards and a fumble.

Harper, 22, originally signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of California back in May last year. He was able to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was later waived and signed to the Patriots’ practice squad.

Harper was on and off of the Patriots’ practice squad last year and was once again cut loose coming out of the preseason this year. The 49ers later signed him to their practice squad before promoting him for Week 1’s game.

The 49ers waived him soon after and he returned to their practice squad a few months ago.

In 2015,Ā Harper was active for five games and caught a single pass for six yards receiving and no touchdowns.
