49ers QB Alex Smith Out For Monday Night’s Game

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that his sources have informed him that 49ers QB Alex Smith will not play in Monday night’s game against the Chicago Bears after he was unable to get clearance from neurologist following the concussion that he suffered last week.

That means Colin Kaepernick, the second-year quarterback out of Nevada, will get the first start of his career.

It is surprising that Smith hasn’t been cleared to play, since all signs seemed to suggest that he would be available. Kaepernick has his work cutout for him as he takes on one of the best defensive units in the game. Kaepernick’s mobility could be a huge weapon throughout the game and the 49ers have shown a lot of confidence in his ability, so it’s not as though they don’t have a chance in this game.
