49ers Expect RB Marcus Lattimore To Be Ready For Offseason Workouts

49ers HC Jim Harbaugh told reporters on Tuesday that he expects 2013 fourth-round pick RB Marcus Lattimore to be ready for the team’s offseason program.

“There’s a path there,” Harbaugh said, via the Sacramento Bee. “Nobody owes anyone a career in professional football. Your career is literally your business. But I have great faith that [Lattimore has] what it takes.

Lattimore, 22, sat out his rookie year while rehabilitating a major knee injury that he sustained in college, which included a torn MCL, PCL and dislocated kneecap. Lattimore is expected to compete for a job during training camp.

San Francisco has a backfield that consists of Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James and practice squad member Jewel Hampton, so Lattimore will have some competition to contend with.

Before his knee injury, Lattimore was considered to be a first-round talent, despite playing running back. We’ll have to see how Lattimore’s knee holds up in the coming months.

Other 49ers Notes:

  • ILB Navorro Bowman will not undergo surgery on his knee injury until “two or three weeks” from now. Currently, there is no timetable for his return. (CSN Bay Area)
  • Harbaugh mentioned that CB Chris Culliver and NT Ian Williams were recovering well from their season-ending injuries. (Sacramento Bee)
  • DE Tank Carradine mentioned that he’s “fully recovered” from an ACL injury. (San Jose Mercury News)
  • 49ers signed T Carter BykowskiWR Chuck Jacobs, T Al Netter, NT Mike Purcell and DB Dax Swanson to future contracts.
