49ers Re-Sign QB Josh Johnson, Cut S Ray Ventrone Again

The San Francisco continue to shuffle their roster by re-signing QB Josh Johnson and releasing S Ray Ventrone on Tuesday.

San Francisco is basically treating Johnson as the 54 player on their, as this marks the fourth time in the past month that he has been r-signed.

Johnson, 28, signed a one-year contract with the 49ers back in May, but has been behind Blaine Gabbert on their depth chart for several months. Johnson appeared in two games last year while playing for the Bengals and received seven carries for 20 yards.

Ventrone, 30, originally signed on with the Patriots as undrafted free agent out of Villanova back in 2005. He later spent four years with the Browns before bouncing around with the Patriots, Steelers and 49ers.

Ventrone has appeared in one game this season, but has yet to record a single statistic.
