49ers Re-Sign RFA LB Michael Wilhoite

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that restricted free agent LB Michael Wilhoite has signed his one-year tender.

The 49ers used a low-round tender on Wilhoite that will run them $1,671,000 for the 2016 season. This also gave them the right of first refusal on any contract offer they receive, but he didn’t receive an offer sheet from another team.

Wilhoite was one of just two remaining restricted free agents along with Broncos LB Brandon Marshall who had yet to sign their tenders.

Wilhoite, 29, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2011. He was on and off of their practice squad for the first few years, but has been playing under exclusive rights tenders each of the past two seasons.

In 2015, Wilhoite appeared in 12 games for the 49ers and recorded 85 tackles, one interception and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 97 inside linebacker out of 97 qualifying players.
