49ers Release Veteran NT Ian Williams From NFI List

The San Francisco 49ers officially released NT Ian Williams from the reserve/non-football injury list with a settlement on Thursday.

Williams, 27, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in 2011. The 49ers originally signed Williams to a five-year, $27.5 million, but later changed the deal to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million after it was determined that his rehab procedure for an ankle injury would take longer than originally planned.

San Francisco placed Williams on the reserve/non-football injury back in July.

In 2015, Williams appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and recorded 65 tackles, one sack, a forced fumble, a recovery and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 18 interior defensive lineman out of 123 qualifying players.
