49ers Release WR Jeremy Kerley

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that the 49ers are releasing veteran WR Jeremy Kerley on Saturday.

Kerley, 28, is a former fifth-round pick of the Jets back in 2011. He spent five years in New York before he was released back in March of last year and later signed to a one-year contract worth over $1 million by the Lions.

Detroit elected to trade Kerley to the 49ers in exchange for OL Brandon Thomas coming out of the preseason in 2016.

The 49ers signed Kerley to a three-year, $10.5 million deal that included a $1.7 million signing bonus back in March.

In 2016, Kerley appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and caught 64 passes for 667 yards receiving and three touchdowns. He also contributed 158 punt return yards for San Francisco. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 49 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.
