Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the 49ers are releasing CB Chris Cook on Wednesday.

Cook, 28, signed a one-year contract worth $1.3 million with the 49ers back in March, but is appears as though they prefer their other options at cornerback.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing  will free up $437,500 in cap space while creating $800,000 in dead money.

In 2014, Cook was limited to appearing in just six games and recorded six tackles and a pass defense for San Francisco. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing a total of 48 snaps the entire season.
