Report: Free Agent CB Chris Cook To Visit 49ers On Thursday

Update:

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that free agent CB Chris Cook will visit the 49ers on Thursday.

  • Barrows mentioned earlier in the day that the 49ers were showing interest in free agent cornerbacks Chris Cook and Nolan Carroll.
  • Carroll visited with the Bills on Wednesday.

The 49ers parted ways with veteran CB Carlos Rogers on Tuesday, and as things stand right now, Tarell Brown is a free agent, so they could clearly use some help at the cornerback position.

Carroll, 27, was taken in the fifth-round by the Dolphins back in 2010. He appeared in all 16 games for Miami and totaled 47 tackles, two sacks and three interceptions. He reportedly has interest from the Steelers and Vikings as well.

  • Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 58 cornerback in the league last season, but below average in terms of coverage ability.

Cook, 27, fits the mold of cornerbacks that the 49ers prefer in that  he is tall and long-armed. He totaled 47 tackles and three pass defenses over the course of 12 games for the Vikings last year.

  • Pro Football Focus rated Cook as the No. 95 cornerback in the league out of 110 qualifying players last season.
