Chris Mortensen is reporting that the 49ers are expected to finalize a contract with WR Pierre Garcon that will pay him $16 million in the first year of the agreement.

According to Ian Rapoport, the 49ers have set their sights on landing free agent WR Pierre Garcon.

  • Rapoport mentions that the wide receiver market is still sorting itself out right now.
  • Matt Maiocco mentions that it could come down to either the 49ers or Rams for Garcon.

There’s an obvious connection to the 49ers, given that new HC Kyle Shanahan worked with Garcon in Washington a few years ago. San Francisco obviously needs more help at the receiver position and landing someone like Garcon would go a long way towards shoring up the position.

In recent weeks, Garcon has been linked to Cardinals, Rams, Eagles, Bears, Cowboys and 49ers.

Garcon, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2008. He spent four years in Indianapolis before signing a  five-year, $42.5 million contract that included $20.5 million guaranteed with the Redskins back in 2012.

Garcon is now in position to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent and will be among the best available receivers.

In 2016, Garcon appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and caught 79 passes for 1,041 yards and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
