49ers Sign First-Round ILB Reuben Foster

The San Francisco 49ers announced Friday that they’ve signed first-round ILB Reuben Foster to a four-year rookie contract.

Foster, 23, was selected with the No. 31 overall pick by the 49ers after they elected to trade back into the first round with the Falcons. In total, San Francisco gave up a second- and a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft for the right to select Foster.

According to OverTheCap.com, Foster will receive a four-year contract worth $9,035,568, which includes a signing bonus of $4,711,329. The contract also has a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2020.

Foster slid down the first round after being rated as one of the best linebacker prospects in the 2017 NFL Draft due to a diluted urine sample at the NFL Combine, while teams were also wary about the condition of his injured shoulder.

During his three-year college career at Alabama, Foster recorded 211 total tackles, 23 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and nine pass defenses in 39 games with the Crimson Tide.
