49ers Sign LB Ray-Ray Armstrong To Two-Year Extension

The San Francisco 49ers announced Monday that they’ve signed LB Ray-Ray Armstrong to a two-year extension that will keep him under team control through the 2018 season.

Ray-Ray had a strong offseason and was off to a good start in 2016 prior to being sidelined for the season due to injury,” said General Manager Trent Baalke. “He has continued to work hard in his rehab and is a young player with a bright future in front of him. We look forward to his continued development and contributions, both on and off the field.

Armstrong, 25, originally signed on with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in 2013. He lasted over year in St. Louis before he was waived and later claimed by the Raiders in October of 2014.

The 49ers wound up claimed off of waivers from the Raiders in November of last year and played out the final year of his three-year, $1.485 million rookie contract before re-signing with San Francisco on a one-year deal this past March.

In 2016, Armstrong recorded eight tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and two pass defenses for the 49ers over the course of two games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 linebacker out of 80 qualifying players.
