49ers Sign No. 3 Overall Pick DE Solomon Thomas, Wrap Up Draft Class

The San Francisco 49ers have signed first-round DE Solomon Thomas to a four-year rookie contract, according to GM John Lynch.

According to OverTheCap.com, Thomas will receiveĀ a four-year contract worth $28,150,940 to go along with a signing bonus of $18,613,412. The contract includes a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2020.

Thomas, 21, was taken with the No. 3Ā overall pick by the 49ers. The 49ers were able to trade down one spot and still get their preferred draft target while picking up the Bears first, third, fourth and 2018 third-round picksĀ in the process.

The overall consensus was that Thomas was a top-five talent in this year’s draft, but some wondered if the presence of Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner could persuade the 49ers to go in a different direction and take someone like LSU S Jamal Adams.

However, San Francisco has made it clear that they were very happy to come away with a talent like Thomas.

During his college career at Stanford, Thomas recorded 98 tackles, 24.5 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks, a forced fumble and four recoveries over the course of 26 games. In 2016, Thomas won the 2016 Morris Trophy, which is given to the Pac 12ā€™s top defensive lineman.
