49ers Sign RB Alfonso Smith

The San Francisco 49ers are signing RB Alfonso Smith to a contract Tuesday, according to his agency HOF Player Representatives.

Smith, 27, originally signed on with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky back in 2010. He spent almost four years in Arizona before he was not tendered a contract this past March.

It took him a while to find an opportunity, but he eventually signed with the 49ers as a free agent in July. However, Smith was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster and was later released.

Last year, Smith appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and ran for 54 yards on 18 carries (3.4 YPC) and caught 10 passes for 68 yards. He scored one touchdown as well.
