49ers Sign Second-Round Pick RB Carlos Hyde

The 49ers announced that they have signed second-round pick RB Carlos Hyde to a four-year contract.

  • San Francisco also announced that they’ve signed TE Dontae Johnson as well.

Hyde was considered by many draft analysts to be the top running back in this year’s draft class, but he wound up being the third running back to come off the board.

The 49ers actually have a lot of competition at the position, but Frank Gore is already into his thirties and is a candidate to have contract reworked. Kendall Hunter is entering the final year of his contract could be playing elsewhere next year. Marcus Lattimore is two years removed from a major knee injury and there is no guarantee that he’ll ever be able to play at the same level.

All things considered, it was probably a smart move for San Francisco to bring in a bruising running back who fits their offensive attack.
