49ers Sign Veteran ILB Desmond Bishop

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that 49ers are signing veteran ILB Desmond Bishop to a contract.

San Francisco brought in Bishop for a workout last week, but they are now dealing with numerous injuries at the position after rookie LB Chris Borland sustained an ankle injury in Week 15.

The Arizona Cardinals waived Bishop a couple of weeks ago. Since then, he has worked out for the Cincinnati Bengals, but they elected to not sign him.

Bishop, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Packers. He spent five years with Green Bay and helped them win a Super Bowl before he suffered a serious hamstring injury that cost him the 2012 season.

Bishop later caught on with the Vikings, but unfortunately suffered a torn ACL and was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

He hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since last year.
