49ers Sign RB Travaris Cadet, Waive RB Pierre Thomas

Update:

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of RB Travaris Cadet on Tuesday as well as the release of veteran RB Pierre Thomas.

Thomas, 30, was just signed to a contract last week, but it appears as though they would prefer to go in a different direction at running back.

In 2014, Thomas ran for 222 yards on 45 carries (4.9 YPC) to go along with 45 receptions for 378 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 running back in the league out of 57 qualifying players.

Ian Rapoport reports that the 49ers are signing RB Travaris Cadet to a contract on Tuesday following his recent workout for the team.

Cadet, 26, originally signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State back in 2012. He spent three years in New Orleans before he was allowed to test the open market this past March.

The Patriots wound up signing him to a two-year contract worth $1.75 million contract, only to release him a few weeks ago. Since becoming available, Cadet has worked out for the Jets, Colts, Lions and Saints.

This season, Cadet was active for one game and caught one pass for two yards receiving.
